What is VOC and why is it important for students and employers to verify competency?

At CWT Chris Warren Training, we understand the importance of vocational competence when it comes to delivering quality training and assessment services to our students because we all started with a reference from someone with more experience than us and qualifications than us in our beginnings. Vocational competency means having the skills and knowledge required to effectively deliver and assess the training that is being provided. Under the Standards set by the regulator ASQA, trainers and assessors are required to have vocational competencies at least to the level being delivered and assessed, and this includes analysing all units of competency, including electives, to ensure that requirements are being met.

In addition to vocational competency, we also recognise the importance of verifying competency for prospective employers. Verification of Competency (VOC) is a crucial method of assessment used to confirm that workers or contractors are competent and meet their duty of care obligations. This is commonly used in many industries for pre-employment checks, contractual arrangements, or site requirements. Assessing for VOC enables businesses to confirm that their employees are still current in their skills and using the equipment. Therefore, at CWT Chris Warren Training, we take great care to ensure our trainers and assessors have the required skills and knowledge, and we encourage our students to undergo VOC assessments to enhance their employability and demonstrate their competence to potential employers.
